The plant came from the northern range of the species, above the town of Cordoba in the state of Vera Cruz, Mexico. Epi. parkinsonianum does grow and bloom in collections here on the Gulf Coast, (it's pretty adaptable to the warmer conditions), but it does not do as well as it can in intermediate conditions. Please remember while you are growing it, that this plant grows in a pendent position; the pseudobulbs trail downward. They do not normally grow upright. Grow it mounted on a plaque or wood, or in a basket turned sideways (as with Cuitlauzina or Chysis). The leaves are fleshy, with a thick cuticle, up to 10" long and 3/4" wide on the mother plant. Large, usually single, creamy white flowers. Medium-sized plant. |
