Stanhopea tricornis Lindl. ssp. stenochila (Lemaire & Kraenzlin) Dodson -- as identified on November 7, 2002 by OIC, #13812, in which it is written "Dodson...says this is very rare, that the forward pointing petals help distinguish it from the hybrid." this refers to the natural hybrid of Stan. tricornis and Stan. reichenbachiana (Stan. x herrenhusana R. Jenny.)
It is one of the smaller-growing stanhopeas. The pseudobulbs are slim, rather than squat, and the capsules are nearly round, with prominent ridges.
Medium-sized plant.
In the photo a petal is being held out to reveal the labellum. |
Donor's culture notes: |
Temperature range W (70-90°F). This plant grows in a 6" plastic pot in a mix of bark-spongerock, fine charcoal, and chopped moss. It's in bright light, but **not** full sun. The Inflorescences are short, generally emerge at the base of the pseudobulbs and grow over the edge of the pot.
Warm-growing, easy-to-grow species, likes to stay damp. |
