Comments: |
This rare non-deciduous species has a huge potential for hybridization. It flowers continuously for several months, with 1-2 flowers open at a time on a 30-50 cm tall inflorescence. The flowers are 5 cm in diameter, fragrant, multicolored, and have a flat shape. The only known locality of this species in the wild is at ~ 20 meters altitude in Central Sulawesi, growing amongst limestone rocks on the banks of a shallow river in deep shade, with the leaf-tips dipping into the water and the roots in permanently wet leaf-litter/soil. Large plant. |
Donor's culture notes: |
Temperature range W (70-90°F). Unlike all other Spathoglottis, this species is shade-loving and enjoys plentiful water. Cultivate in a standard, open terrestrial mix with some limestone and humus added. |
