This Encyclia is described by Dr. Withner as a small plant, but it is not when it is mature. I bought this orchid from Binot at Santa Barbara in about 1993 as a small plant in bud. It now has oval pseudobulbs 13 cm in circumference and 5 cm high base to leaf, leaves 60 cm long, two per pseudobulb, and firm of texture. The flower stalk is 70 cm and is self supporting, flowers are somewhat larger than E. tampensis and has a lemon-like aroma which reminds me of "Murphy's Oil Soap". This is not a windowsill plant. |
