My plant grows mounted on a hardwood stick. The Rhizome grows around the stick horizontally and the bulbs stick out at about a 80-90° angle. The spike is apical, has 2 to 4 large-for-the-size-of-the-plant flowers that are semi-pendant on the arching spike.
My plant blooms off of pseudobulbs that are at least 2 years old. I do not know if this is typical for the species. |
Donor's culture notes: |
My plant grows at intermediate temps. Since it comes from dry forests in northeastern Mexico at 1000-2000m, it can take somewhat drier and cooler winter temperatures than I give it in New Jersey in doors. The temps in the environment are around 55-62°F nights and 68-75°F in the winter. It will do fine with warmer days in the summer as long as the nighttime temps cool to at least the low 70s.
This species flowers best with plenty of light. Mine is in a south-facing window in the winter and outside in summer (in New Jersey, USA) where it gets very bright morning and afternoon light (under 30% shade cloth). |
