The plant was bought from Alvim Seidel, Orquidário Catarinense Ltda., Santa Catarina, Brasil, c. 1995. It is a very strong and robust plant, flowering regularly in summertime with 5 to 7 flowers per inflorescence, flowers are about 8 cm to 10 cm (3.1 to 3.9 inches) and nicely perfumed. Flowers open all about the same time, making a nice display, and last 4 to 6 weeks. During the aging process, they change colour, sepals start from a pale olive green into dark copper brown and the lip from a light pink into a saturated violet. I would say it is a rather hardy plant and definitely deserves a place in every collection! |
Donor's culture notes: |
Cultural conditions are intermediate, minimum temperature in winter is 12°C (53.6°F) and maximum day temperature in summer 33°C (91.4°F), maximum light but no direct sun and lots of fresh air all year round. The plant is potted in a bark mix which I let dry completely before watering again with rainwater. During the cooler months, I keep it even drier. I start to fertilise with the appearance of new growths in spring and stop after flowering. |
