ORIGIN/HABITAT: The Philippines and New Guinea. This orchid is widely
distributed in the Philippines with collections made on Luzon in the
provinces of Aurora, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna (on Mt. Makiling), Rizal, and
Zambales (on Mt. Pinatubo) as well as in the mountains near Baguio in
Mountain Province. Plants have also been found on the islands of Mindoro
(on Mt. Yagaw), Negros in Negros Oriental Province (on Mt. Canlaon), and
Mindanao. Plants are found at 1000-6550 ft. (300-2000 m). Until recently,
Aerides quinquevulnera was thought to be endemic to the Philippines, but
plants have now been found in the Madang region of Papua New Guinea.
