ORIGIN/HABITAT: Ecuador and Peru. This orchid grows on trees in wet forests on the western slopes of the Andes. In Ecuador, plants are collected in the Provinces of Azuay (with several collections near Cuenca), Chimborazo, El Oro, Loja, Pichincha, and Tungurahua mostly at 4900–6550 ft. (1500–2000 m), but plants are found as low as 2950 ft. (900 m) and as high as 8050 ft. (2450 m). In Peru, plants are found near the source of the Marañon River in the Department of Cajamarca.
