Culture Notes from Donor: Pollen parent plant: Temperature range Warm 90-70°F, cooler season Intermediate 83-60°F. Grown under T5 lighting during past year, previously a windowsill plant. Potted in Marilyn LeDoux's cultural mix, presumably as found in LeDoux, M. 1996 Phragmipedium xerophyticum and its Culture. Orchid Digest 59 (3): 108-110... fir bark, charcoal, and perlite in that order of magnitude.
Comments: Pod parent plant: Flower is about the size of a dime.
Pollen parent plant: Plant is a division of 'Oaxaca' CBR/AOS from Marilyn LeDoux of Windy Hill. Compared to the 'Windy Hill' cultivar, 'Oaxaca' seems to have a less tidy growth habit, with longer stolons and greater spacing between leaves. The pouch also appears slightly more elongated. Small plant.

The origin/habitat information below is supplied courtesy of Charles and Margaret Baker
The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Endemic to a single, restricted region in Oaxaca, Mexico
at 1050 ft. (320 m), on eastern slopes that form part of the watershed for
the Gulf of Mexico. Mexipedium xerophyticum grows on rocks in warm, humid
conditions with other tropical, xerophytic vegetation such as Agave and
Plumeria. Fearing over collection, the describers gave no precise habitat
location. They did, however, indicate that the habitat receives 98 in.
(2500 mm) of rainfall per year and has an average annual temperature of
77F (25C). The climate for Minatitlan, Mexico was selected as
representative of the general area, and the data agrees with the habitat
description.
