ORIGIN/HABITAT: The Bahamas. This species has been collected at numerous locations throughout the Bahamas. Withner (1996) reported, "Encyclia altissima plants grow in coppices mixed with shrubbery, cacti, occasional bromeliads, agaves, and other types of xerophytic flora. The vegetation is tough, photophilic, and often thorny, covering acres in the Bahamas at about head height or a little higher."
