ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico. This orchid is found in the states of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Michoacán. It grows at medium elevations in deciduous forest in the Sierra Madre del Sur and at low elevations in deciduous jungle. The climate in the region is warm and dry in winter and spring, with heavy rainfall from late spring into midautumn. The wet and dry seasons are almost equal in length.
