Named for George Ure Skinner (1804-1867) of Britain who went to Guatemala in 1832 where he
resided for most of his life. He collected orchids for James Bateman and also sent plants to Sir William Hooker.

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.
This text is copyrighted by the Bakers and may not be reproduced without permission.
ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico and Guatemala. Plants grow on oak trees at
3300-6550 ft. (1000-2000 m) in the southern Mexican State of Chiapas.
Although reportedly uncommon, Barkeria skinneri is also found across the
border in neighboring Guatemala.
