The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and on Cuba and Jamaica in
the Caribbean. Plants have been found in several locations in Nicaragua
where the species is reported to be widespread but uncommon from Chontales
to the Honduran border, growing as epiphytes in dense tropical forests. In
Panama, collections have been made in the provinces of Colón, Darien, and
Panama mostly at low elevations, but with one collection In Panama
Province reported at 1950-2600 ft. (600-800 m). In Jamaica, plants are
found in the following regions: Crofts Mountain, Dolphin Head, Island View
Hill, Catadupa, the Cockpit Country, Wilson Valley District, Aboukir, the
john Crow Mountains, and Plantain Garden River. Habitat elevations were
not reported for any of these locations, however. Plants have collected in
Cuba, but details of habitat location and elevation were not given. Ames &
Correll (1985) discussed this species as occurring in Guatemala, listing
Pleurothallis jocolensis Ames as a synonym and commenting that
Pleurothallis corniculata is represented from Guatemala only by the type
collection of Pleurothallis jocolensis. The Kew Data Base (2006), however,
now lists Pleurothallis jocolensis as a separate and valid species, so we
are uncertain as to whether Pleurothallis corniculata actually occurs in
Guatemala. The species has also been reported as occurring in Mexico, and
Williams (1986) included it in his writings, listing Pleurothallis alata
Richard & Galeotti as a synonym. He gave no specific habitat information,
however, and stated that, "No Mexican specimens of this species have been
seen and it is included in the flora because the Richard or Galeotti
drawing of P. alata seems to belong here. There is no specimen in
Richard's herbarium at Paris." As we have been unable to find any specific
information of the occurrence Pleurothallis corniculata in Mexico, and as
the Kew Data Base (2006) now lists Pleurothallis alataas a synonym of
Specklinia alata (Richard & Galeotti) Solano & Soto Arenas, we are
uncertain as to whether or not Pleurothallis corniculata actually occurs
in Mexico.
