The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.
This text is copyrighted by the Bakers and may not be reproduced without permission.
ORIGIN/HABITAT: Peru. This terrestrial or lithophytic species occurs
mostly the Departments of Cajamarca and Ancash on the semi-arid western
slopes of the Andes. However, one collection has been reported from the
eastern slopes in the Department of Amazonas south of Chachapoyas where
the plants were growing in evergreen thickets. The plants usually grow at
9200-11,800 ft. (2800-3600 m) but have been found as low as 7850 ft. (2400
m) and as high as 13,100 ft. (4000 m). Although plants normally grow in
protection of scrubby vegetation, they are often found growing fully
exposed to the sun.
