The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: French Guiana, Peru, and Bolivia. This orchid was
originally found in French Guiana at about 3300 ft. (1000 m). Since then,
plants were found in Bolivia where they grow on tree trunks in moist,
tropical, mountain forests in the northeastern part of the Department of
Santa Cruz. Galeandra baueri var. piloso-columna C. Schweinfurth was found
in Peru, Department of Junín, in the Chanchamayo Valley at 5900 ft. (1800
m) and near La Merced at 3950 ft. (1200 m).
