Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range 50-107°F, growing in 50% shade, humidity 40%.
Comments: The only known pollinator was a local hummingbird indigenous to the San Joaquin Valley. However, another Broughtonia sanguinea was blooming and also pollinated at the same time, by the same method; Broughtonia sanquinea var. aurea 'Yellow fever'.
Parent plant: Has been blooming now continuously for 6 months. An excellent floriferous plant.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Jamaica. Broughtonia sanguinea is found over most of the
island, and it has been reported from sea level and about 2500 ft. (0-760
m). Plants are usually found within about 6 mi. (10 km) of the coast at
less than 1600 ft. (490 m), however, and the heaviest concentrations are
reported along the coast on the south side of the island near sea level.
