Flasks of
Cymbidium suave 'Nowra' × 'Wategan'

Number: TN2000
Name: Cymbidium suave 'Nowra' × 'Wategan'
  Very low yield

Type: outcross    (What's that?)
No Photos Available

Culture Notes from Donor: Cymbidium suave really likes decaying eucalyptus wood. I have a piece of an old log about 2 feet long that was on the ground in my front yard, and it is thriving. I know people grow it in more traditional media, as well.

Comments: Native to Australia.

Flask Information
Availability: We have sold all of the flasks for this item.
You should: Consider getting individual plants or compots instead of a flask.
You can place a "Notify Flask Recipients" Request, and either we or a flask recipient may contact you when plants are available.

You may also place a "Notify Retries" Request, and if an identical pollination (the same parents) is done again, we'll let you know.

You may reserve a flask, but it's very unlikely you'll get one ...this could only happen if we found a flask that we didn't know we had.
Yield Estimate: 85 plants (based on flask surveys done 08/13/2001 through 05/07/2004)
Yield estimates are only approximate, but may appear to be fairly exact numbers because they are a combination of large rough estimates in remaining mother flasks and more accurate small estimates in reflasks.
Plantlet Sizes: From many flasks 20 - 90 mm plants (based on flask surveys done 02/24/2004 through 04/05/2004)
From one most recently surveyed flask 20 - 80 mm (04/05/2004)

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Eastern Australia. Plants grow in a very narrow zone along the east coast from the southern Cape York Peninsula southward through Queensland and New South Wales to near the Victoria border. Cymbidium suave usually grows in damp, open woodland from sea level to 3950 ft. (0-1200 m), but it is occasionally found in cleared areas in the rainforest. It grows on trees in 2 primary types of habitat, both of which provide some moisture and protection to the roots. In one area, it is found in damp, open hardwood forest, mostly on Eucalyptus trees, where it grows in hollows of trunks and branches. It forms an immense root system which often penetrates deep into the damp, rotting core of the tree. In these situations, roots have been found extending more than 33 ft. (10 m) from the plant. The other primary habitat is on Melaleuca trees which grow along water courses or along the edge of swamps. The bark of this tree peels off like sheets of paper, and the roots of Cymbidium suave penetrate beneath the top layers of bark, eventually forming an extensive network around the tree. Plants have also been found on tree stumps, on Eucalyptus fence posts that have started to rot, and on tree-fern trunks.
