The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. This lithophytic orchid grows in the state of
Minas Gerais and was discovered in the Serra do Caraça on the sandstone
summit with soil-filled cracks and depressions at 5750-6400 ft. (1750-1950
m). Plants were later found somewhat southeast of Diamantina on the Pico
do Itambé at 5300-5800 ft. (1620-1770 m). Fowlie (1975) described the
habitat as follows: "This species enjoys a position on the edge of the
bluff, where it clambers freely. Here, it receives full sun or bright
reflected light, constant air movement, and protection from winter frost
by flow of air currents in its semi-vertical position. Even during drought
its roots find moisture, lying embedded in the mat of humus on the very
edge of the cliff face".
