ORIGIN/HABITAT: Ecuador. In Ecuador, this epiphytic or terrestrial orchid
is found in the western foothills of the Andes on steep embankments in
extremely wet montane cloudforest. Dodson & Dodson (1980) reported
collections in El Oro Province at 2950 ft. (900 m) and in Pichincha
Province near Santo Domingo at 1300 ft. (400 m). More recent collections
listed in the Tropicos Data Base (2008), however, included ones from El
Oro Province at 800 ft. (250 m), several from Esmeraldas Province between
Lita and Alto Tambo at 2450-2600 ft. (750-800 m), one from Imbabura
Province between Lita and Ibarra at 4600 ft. (1400 m), one from Los Ríos
Province near Santo Domngo at 2950 ft (900 m), and one from Pichincha
Province near Centinela at 2150 ft. (650 m).
