The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. This orchid was discovered originally in the Serra
do Mar in the state of São Paulo. Pabst and Dungs (1975) reported that it
is now known to occur in the states of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio
de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul.
Plants grow in the hot, humid lowlands along the coast, in marshy areas of
the interior, in the cool, moist mountains near the coast, and in colder
regions with rigorous winters. Tomlinson undated (1986?), however,
reported that these plants require cool, moist conditions. We have
estimated the habitat elevation to provide these conditions, but growers
should use the resulting climate table and cultural suggestions with
caution.
