Culture Notes from Donor: My plant is mounted on a lichen covered stick and seems quite happy there although in the wild it grows in cracks and crevices of rock outcroppings in Brazil (Minas Gerais).
Although listed as an intermediate grower, it can withstand cooler night temperatures.
Parent plant: Temperature range I (60-83°F).
Comments: The specific epithet, esalqueana, is very unusual because it is derived from an acronym of the name of an agricultural school, Escola Superior de Agricultura Luis de Queiroz, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
A diminutive species with infloresences scarcely longer than the leaves which is one of the distinguishing features separating it from L. itambana, which has longer inflorescenses.
Though this pollination is spontaneous, it is most likely a self pollination.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. This species is found in Minas Gerais southwest of
Diamantina near Gouvêa at about 3950 ft. (1200 m). Plants grow on rocks
with the roots growing down into cracks and fissures where they are
protected from desiccation by moisture-retaining mosses, lichens, and
plant debris.
