ORIGIN/HABITAT: Ecuador and Peru. This epiphytic orchid is found on the
eastern slopes of the Andes, usually at elevations of 3950-5250 ft.
(1200-1600 m), but Jenny (1993) reported that plants have been found in
Peru between Tarapoto and Yurimaguas at 2450 ft. (750 m). Dodson & Bennett
(1989) reported a collection in Peru near Iquitos in the department of
Loreto at about 800 ft. (250 m). Dodson & Dodson (1989) reported
collections in eastern Ecuador from wet mountain forests at 1500-3300 ft.
(450-1000 m). Although reported by earlier writers as occurring in Central
America, Jenny (1993) stated that, "Reports of finds in central America
are certainly false."
