Incoming seed is examined to determine embryo count to help decide how much seed should be sown, and/or which capsule would be the best to sow. Permanent sample slides are also prepared. Each separate package of seed is examined because these are generally from separate capsules, which is what we request from our donors.

Seed is tannish yellow to the naked eye, and somewhat fluffy. Moderately small seeds are windsock shaped, sometimes curved, and have moderately small sized oval brownish-yellow embryos toward the pointed end.

Seed is yellow to the naked eye, and free flowing. Only a small quantity of seed was received. Tiny seeds are short-rice shaped, one pointed end, and have tiny sized egg-shaped greenish-yellow embryos toward the pointed end which are 1/2 the length of the seed.
