Incoming seed is examined to determine embryo count to help decide how much seed should be sown, and/or which capsule would be the best to sow. Permanent sample slides are also prepared. Each separate package of seed is examined because these are generally from separate capsules, which is what we request from our donors.

Seed is pale tan to the naked eye, and very clumpy. Large seeds are long, somewhat curved, and have small sized irregularly-shaped, pale, immature embryos centrally located which are 1/10 the length of the seed when present. |

Seed is pale yellow to the naked eye, and very clumpy. Only a small quantity of seed was received, so no sample was taken, but appears to be similar to that in assay 1709. This group of capsules was kept separate because spoilage was visible. |
