ORIGIN/HABITAT: Borneo. Paphiopedilum stonei is found only in Sarawak near
Kuching at 200-1650 ft. (60-500 m). It usually grows on steep,
northeast-facing slopes or cliffs, where it is lightly shaded by the
crowns of trees growing at the base of the cliff. It clings to the
limestone with only a minimum of humus and leaf litter accumulated around
the roots, but the roots are often embedded in lithophytic mosses.
