ORIGIN/HABITAT: Peru and Ecuador. In Peru, plants are found between
Chachapoyas and Pomacochas. In Ecuador, plants grow just south of the
Colombian border between Tulcán and Maldonado. In both locations, plants
grow in cloudforest at about 6550 ft. (2000 m), but the fog and mist
common in cloudforests does not necessarily develop every day in the
Peruvian habitat.
