ORIGIN/HABITAT: Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, and Guatemala. This
relatively common, widespread species was first found in Mexico in the
state of Vera Cruz. It is the most northerly occurring member of the genus
and is the only known species of Masdevallia in Mexico. Throughout their
range of distribution, plants grow on the slopes facing the Gulf of Mexico
and Caribbean, usually at 1300-3950 ft. (400-1200 m). In Costa Rica,
however, plants were collected at Agua Caliente at 5900 ft. (1800 m).
