The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. Plants are reported to occur from Pernambuco southward through Espiríto Santo, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. They are found at elevations of about 150 ft. (50 m). Although reported as also occurring in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Ecuador, we have been unable to find details of habitat location and elevation in those areas, and Ames & Correll [(1952-1953, and 1965) 1985] stated under "Excluded Species" in Orchids of Guatemala and Belize, "There is also a citation of a questionable variety of this species (Bull. Herb. Boiss. 7: 542, 1899) as follows: Huehuetenango, near Chaculá, Seler 2327. We are confident that the above are not referable to E. glumaceum, which is a native of Brazil and Ecuador."
