ORIGIN/HABITAT: The Philippine Islands. Paphiopedilum argus is endemic to
northern Luzon Island where it grows in the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao,
and Quezon in mountain forests only on east- and west-facing slopes. It is
usually found at 3950-6550 ft. (1200-2000 m), growing just below ridge
tops in thick moss at the base of stunted trees or in leaf litter in
bamboo thickets. Plants may be found as low as 1950 ft. (600 m), however,
or as high as 8200 ft. (2500 m).
