ORIGIN/HABITAT: South America. This terrestrial orchid is widespread from
Surinam southward through many states in Brazil to as far south as
Argentina and Paraguay, with plants reported to as far west at western
Ecuador. In Brazil, plants have been reported in both moist, mountain
habitats and in the hot, humid lowlands. In Ecuador, this orchid has been
found near Zaruma in El Oro Province where it was growing in seasonally
dry montane cloud forest at about 4250 ft. (1300 m). We have been unable
to find details of habitat location and elevation in other regions.
