ORIGIN/HABITAT: Java, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Borneo, Malaya, peninsular
Thailand, and the Philippine Islands. In Java, this orchid is quite common
in western Java but is less so in central and eastern Java. Plants grow on
isolated trees where light is high between sea level and about 3950 ft.
(0-1200 m).
On Borneo, plants are found in hillside and lower mountain forests at
1000-4900 ft. (300-1500 m) with collections reported from Banjarmasin and
Martapura areas of Kalimantan, Mt. Kinabalu and Mt. Alab in Sabah, and on
Mt. Bidi, Mt. Meraja, and Bukit Krian in Sarawak. In Malaya, plants are
found only in the extreme north. This orchid is widespread in the
Philippines with collections reported from provinces of Agusan, Bukidnon,
and Zamboanga on Mindanao, from near Bontoc in Mountain Province as well
as the provinces of Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Rizal, and Zambales on Luzon,
the on the island of Negros Occidental.
