Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range W (70-90°F). Grows easily in good light, let dry between waterings, and allow for drier rest during the winter.
Comments: Parent plant: This is a relatively small plant, reaching about 7" in overall height, and having an inflorescence of about 20" carrying approximately a dozen or more 3 cm flowers.
Encyclia dickensoniana is a small epiphyte native from Mexico to Nicaragua in dry oak forests and semideciduous tropical forests at altitudes from 100m to 1300m, making it a hot to intermediate grower. It is easily identified by being the only species of encyclia in Central America in which the mahogany-red petals and sepals are shiny as if lacquered.

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
This orchid was first discovered in Las Maria in the Comayagua Valley of
Honduras. A later collection was made in Mecapalco, Mexico with subsequent
collections made in the state of Chiapas, but habitat details for these
collections were not reported. Plants have also been found in Nicaragua in
the department of Nueva Segovia near the Honduran border between Jalapa
and Ocotal at about 1100 ft. (330 m). We do not have any information on
habitat location and elevation in Guatemala and El Salvador. Through its
range, this orchid grows as an epiphyte in lower montane forest.
