Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range W (70-90°F)

ORIGIN/HABITAT: The Lesser Antilles where plants are known to occur on St.
Vincent. Garay & Sweet (1974) indicate this orchid is endemic in the
Lesser Antilles, but some later writers, including Pabst & Dungs
(1975-1977) and Bechtel, Cribb, & Launert (1986), and Menezes (1995)
continue to report distribution into South America to as far south as
Brazil. Unfortunately, we have been unable to find any reference to
habitat elevation of the habitat on St. Vincent, so the following climate
table is based on an estimated elevation and should be used somewhat
cautiously. The highest point on St. Vincent Island, however, is 4100 ft.
(1250 m), so the possible error in the indicated temperatures should be no
more than 6-7F (3-4C). In Brazil, plants identified as Cyrtopodium
andersonii grow on rocks on steep slopes near the coast in the vicinity of
Rio de Janeiro. Menezes (1995), however, reports that this species is
found in the central interior of Brazil near Brasilia where it grows on
rocks and blooms in September and October, which is the Brazilian spring.
