Culture Notes from Donor: Masdevallia ignea is a cool grower, native to the mountains of Columbia where temperatures range from 45°F to 58°F year round (reference: Baker & Baker). Needs brighter light conditions than most Masdevallia species to flower. In California, some growers have been able to get the plant to survive through warm summer temperatures up to 80°F by maintaining constant air circulation and humidity.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Colombia. This species occurs in the Eastern Cordillera in
the Department of Norte de Santander. Plants usually grow as terrestrials
in the shady, rich humus of forests at about 9850 ft. (3000 m), although
they have been collected as low as 8000 ft. (2440 m).
