ORIGIN/HABITAT: Colombia, Costa Rica, Guyana, Ecuador, Panama, Peru,
Venezuela This species has a very wide range in both area of distribution
and habitat elevation at 3950-10,500 ft. (1200-3200 m). Plants are usually
found in cloudforests and grow on clay embankments as well as
epiphytically. Those that originate in the northern part of the range are
usually found at or below 6550 ft. (2000 m), while those from Ecuador,
Peru and Bolivia normally grow at 7850-9850 ft. (2400-3000 m).
