ORIGIN/HABITAT: Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. Plants have been found near Ayabaca in the Department of Piura in extreme northwestern Peru. Some writers have indicated that plants are found at elevations up to 9850 ft. (3000 m). The exact locality and elevation were not given, but plants were found in upper-elevation cloudforest that had a marked dry season. The following cultural recommendations are, therefore, based on estimated habitat elevation and should be used with caution.
