ORIGIN/HABITAT: Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia. Oerstedella wallisii was
first discovered in the Frontino district of northern Colombia. Plants
were growing as epiphytes in the Cordillera Occidental at 3950-6550 ft.
(1200-2000 m). This species has since been found in Panama and Costa Rica
growing either in the mountains at about 6550 ft. (2000 m) where the dry
season is not as severe, or in wet forests at somewhat lower elevations on
slopes facing the Caribbean. While plants are usually found as epiphytes,
they also grow as terrestrials.
