ORIGIN/HABITAT: Widespread, including the Guianas, northern Brazil,
Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Plants grow in the hot,
humid lowlands, at about 1000-1950 ft. (300-600 m). Collections made near
Moyobamba, Peru were as high as 3300 ft. (1000 m). Plants usually grow in
fairly deep shade in wet forests.
